Goju Ryu is one of the popular Karate styles which was established in 1930 by Chujon Miyagi, who was the student of Kenryo Hijaonna. This style uses breathing power and has a variety of stances. "Goju Ryu" means Hard- Soft Style. And this style is approved by the World Karate Federation(WKF).
Shotokan Ryu
Shotokan Ryu is the most popular and widely known throughout the world. It is also approved by World Karate Federation(WKF). It was established in 1938 by Gichin Funakoshi. This style has wide stances and attacks by the hands, elbows, knees, and feet. "Shotokan" means waving.
Wado Ryu
Wado Ryu style is taken from Shotokan Ryu. It was established in 1939 by Hienori Otsuka. It focuses more on how to move the body to avoid attacks. And it has shorter stances compared to other styles. "Wa" means Peace and "do" means Way.
Shito Ryu
Another popular style is Shito Ryu, which was created in 1928 by Kenwa Mabuni. This style focuses more on landing powerfully accurate strikes. In this style, students learn fifty katas which are predetermined moves for attacks and defense. It required physical strength and strong stances to perform the moves.
